Kill Chain Podcast: Hacking IT/OT Systems
This week the Fleet Defender crew discusses the different hacks that are possible on both information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) systems. These systems, often referred to as IT/OT have become a very popular talking point in the news especially surrounding cybersecurity for IT/OT systems. Securing IT systems has been common knowledge for decades but the world is moving more and more towards a convergence of IT/OT systems. The need for IT/OT cybersecurity has never been greater. In this episode we discuss ways that IT/OT systems can be protected and hardened against cyber attack.
IT/OT Convergence
Cybersecurity publications and news have been discussing the convergence of IT/OT systems for a number of years. This convergence is the integration of IT systems (information technology) with operational technology (OT) systems. Operation technology includes machinery or any operation of a physical process and the machinery that carries out that operation. Information technology is the flow of data and digital information. The merger of these two means greater insight into physical processes, more efficiency, and less waste. With OT systems becoming more integrated with IT systems and networks it has never been more important to focus on IT/OT cybersecurity to protect not just data but the machinery interacting with the physical world.
